LightLab has a total of 61 patents and patent applications in more than 15 different patent families. LightLab continues to develop the technology for fieldemission based lamps by means of research and development on cathodes, anodes, drive electronics and system level. Because LightLab has intensified its collaboration and dialogue with various partners in 2011, the importance of the patent portfolio has increased during the year. LightLab considers that it is important to constantly develop the patent portfolio in the areas mentioned above as part of LightLab's commercialisation of the company's technology. LightLab intends to license the patented technology to customers globally and, as a result of this, to build up a portfolio that is protected in the major markets. In addition to patent protection of the company's own technology, the strategy involves constant monitoring of competing technologies.

During Q1 2011, IPQ IP Specialists AB carried out an external investigation of LightLab's patent portfolio. The findings of this investigation were that the patent portfolio covers the company's current technology.
